THE PROGRAM

In facing the theme of urban quality of life, it is important to pay particular attention to the needs of the youngest citizens. The territory and the natural and social environment of the city, with the increasing participation of various groups of citizens, contribute toward building a new culture of shared territory and sustainability, in which children and young people, with their means of knowledge, become active and able to introduce real behavioral change.
From schoolyards to public green spaces and city parks, the discovery of nature in urban environments from early childhood is particularly strategic today for stimulating in new generations the adoption of good dietary lifestyles practices and physical activity and to fight the rise of chronic diseases that result from poor eating habits. The Riccardo Catella Foundation, from 2012, promotes the program "MiColtivo, Orto a Scuola" with the aim of encouraging the younger generation to adopt a correct and healthy diet through the concrete experience of educational vegetable and fruit gardens, placed in the courtyards of the city's public schools, providing a redevelopment of these public green spaces.

The program is being implemented in public schools providing two levels of action:

GARDEN REALIZATION AND MAINTENANCE
Participatory design, installation and maintenance of the vegetable and fruit gardens, with the redevelopment of the green area

TEACHING.
An innovative approach based on the direct training of teachers both in teaching methods and curricular content. The teacher themselves plan the educational activities for students linked to the gardens, integrating them into school planning.

NETWORK ON TERRITORY

One of the fundamental requirements for the success of the program is the involvement, right from the design stage, the surrounding area schools (parents, associations, the reality that already work or have worked with the school, ...) with the objective of "making network "and trigger collaborations and synergies that can make schools the socializing and active citizenship.
In this spirit, the promoters will make available to offer support in the design / installation of vegetable gardens and in the implementation of the relevant educational program even at private and public schools can find themselves the resources necessary to cover the costs of implementing
